“Legacy” is one of those concepts we toss around in discussion without understanding where it comes from and what it means. A person’s legacy is the lasting impact or statement made after they’re gone. That requires they care about the thing left behind to which it pertains while they’re alive.
So… like Moses mastered writing and management science from the Egyptians, and staged a hostile take-over of its slave population through class warfare, culminating in an exodus of the Jewish people to the land of Cannan.
His accomplishments were:
- Freeing the slaves,
- Establishing a faceless divinity based on a morality of common sense,
- The creation of An accessible and open social contract, through terms established in the Ten Commandments and the Torah.
But his legacy is the Rule of Law, Monotheism, and the state’s use of the written word to plan spectacles to sway the masses, and follow the laws.
Mike Tyson is a fighter. His only priority is to be number one and survive; because he probably believes, with good reason (especially if you’re going in the ring), that no-one will save you, you’re on your own.
No one gives a shit about legacies when they’re on the battlefield. They just wanna survive.
So… his answer is the right one, for him.
I agree with it, for him.
But… unless you plan on having trust issues forever, it’s worth reflecting on whether it’s the right answer, for you.
